Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

Directed by: Wes Anderson

Written by:  Wes Anderson, Roman Coppola

Starring:      Jared Gilman, Kara Hayward, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand

How cute this film is. A celebration of young innocent sweet love. I love every bit of this movie. It puts a smile on my face while watching it.

It has a star studded cast. And yet, the child actors are the real stars of this film. The leads Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward do look a bit too mature for their age, but still they are cute as a button. They took the direction well. They held their stiff faces and spilled out awkward lines gallantly. A bit odd to see them kiss and touch each other though...

(Saw an interview of Jared Gilman, his voice changed... Pity. I like his voice a lot in this film.)

It's a typical Wes Anderson film, with loads of his trademarks. I adore the quirkiness, the vibrant colours, the tracking shots and long takes, extreme attention to details and the famous obsessive symmetrical shots. To some, Anderson's aesthetics might seem gimmicky. I love it though. It goes extremely well with this quirky love story.

It is also a brilliant collaboration between the director and cinematographer Robert Yeoman, as well as composer Alexandre Desplat. The film is different and lovable. Truly is a delight.

Even the trailer is fun.
